What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels use acids or other chemicals to break apart and remove the outer layers of skin cells. These cells have worked their way to the surface and have become rough and damaged. Removing these layers brings new skin cells to the surface. A chemical peel also removes signs of aging, uneven skin tone, and enlarged pores.

What to Expect After a Chemical Peel

Your recovery process after a chemical peel might only take a few hours but could take up to a few weeks. Deeper, more intensive peels have a longer recovery time, while with a mild peel, you might have no downtime at all. 

After your peel, the first thing you notice might be a feeling of tightness or dryness, followed by flaking and peeling. Areas of discoloration can become more noticeable before fading. With many chemical peels, you can see complete recovery within a week or two. A deep chemical peel might take several weeks before peeling, and redness starts to subside. 

How Often Should I Have a Chemical Peel?

You can have a light chemical peel once every four or five weeks to keep your skin looking bright and refreshed. If you have more significant signs of aging or dark spots, we may recommend a medium peel. You can have this type of peel every three to nine months. Most people only need a deep peel once to see powerful anti-aging results, but not everyone is ready for the recovery time required.
